What Will You Be Doing?

  • Guide and lead both onshore and offshore development teams, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Develop project plans, set milestones, and ensure the team meets deadlines and delivers high-quality software solutions.
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication between onshore and offshore teams, ensuring everyone is aligned on project goals and objectives.
  • Allocate resources effectively, considering the skills and strengths of team members, to optimize productivity and achieve project milestones.
  • Address and resolve conflicts, bottlenecks, or any issues that may impede the progress of the team.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand their expectations, communicate progress, and address concerns effectively.
  • Work towards ensuring client satisfaction by delivering solutions that meet or exceed expectations and maintaining a positive client relationship.
  • Manage relationships with technology vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure services meet quality standards and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure IT operations comply with industry regulations and internal policies, establishing governance frameworks for effective control.
  • Be prepared to handle crises or unexpected challenges that may arise during the development process, implementing swift and effective solutions.
  • Develop and implement strategies aligned with organizational goals, ensuring technology initiatives support overall business objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with offshore development, including cultural differences, time zone challenges, and potential communication barriers.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to learn from experiences and adopt better processes and tools.
  • Implement and oversee quality assurance processes to guarantee the delivery of reliable and high-performance software.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the teams performance and implement improvements as needed.
  • Ensure that the team follows relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, particularly concerning data security and intellectual property.
  • Manage the budget for offshore development projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficient use of resources.
  • Manage application and database performance tuning, database administration, application and database troubleshooting, break fix and root cause analysis.
  • Lead 24x7 support of critical applications and databases.
  • Planning of on-call and off hours support schedules

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent relevant experience
  • 10+ years in IT operations supporting database and/or application server-based systems
  • Management experience of 5+ years managing onshore and offshore resources
  • Enterprise Architecture knowledge ndash; ability distinguish day-to-day from major architecture decisions.
  • Experience managing vendors and monitoring/enforcing corresponding SLAs.
  • Experience managing own teams adherence to SLAs with internal or external customers
  • Proven ability to implement and improve upon processes
  • Proven track record of strong technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis a must
  • Strong problem management and vendor management skills during outage situations
  • Multi-platform experience: UNIX, Windows, ORACLE, SQL Server, various web application servers

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of IT areas in infrastructure and software with ability to quickly narrow an issue down to the root cause
  • Strong understanding of application-level monitoring including synthetic transactions and batch process monitoring
  • Strong understanding of software programming, systems trouble shooting and database administration
  • Strong understanding of security best practices
  • Knowledge of SOX and PCI regulations
  • Understanding of FAA regulations, a plus
  • Formal education in management science (MBA/MIS) a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft server, application development and database technologies
  • Database experience including Microsoft SQL Server
  • General airline knowledge a plus
  • On call responsibilities- support of 24x7 requirements
  • Strong communication and organization skills required
  • Able to travel up to 40
