This is a Chief Flight Instructor position at a mid-size FAA Part 141 flight school. While the Chief CFI must fulfill regulatory requirements for FAA compliance, this position is much more. We want a Chief CFI who leads by example with their superior technical knowledge, flying ability, and sets the standard for quality of teaching. But more importantly, it is about ldquo;teaching the teachers.rdquo; Our Chief CFIrsquo;s principle purpose is to hire, train, develop, and coach the best group of CFIs in the country. This requires daily engagement with the instructors.
Horizon Aviation is a busy Part 141 flight school in the Northeast. We have two locations: Providence, RI and Norwood, MA, 13 full-tome flight instructors, 15 aircraft, in-house maintenance department, and we fly more than 10,500 hours per year.
Requirements:
- Current CFI-A, CFII, MEI
- 6000 hours total flight time
- 5000 hours dual given
- Bachelor degree (any major is acceptable)
- Prior experience managing people in private sector, military, flight school, or other.
- Prior experience as Part 141 instructor
- Preferred prior experience as Part 141 Assistant Chief Instructor or Chief Instructor
- Pass FAA-conduted Chief Flight Instructor check ride with local FSDO
- Pass background check
- Passion for teaching and flying
- 5 frac12; day work week including frac12; day on Saturday
Job Duties
Recruit, Hire, and Train CFIs
- Review resumes, conduct interviews and select candidates
- Conduct initial new-hire training
- Ensure all new-hire paperwork is processed
- Train CFI in 141 compliance
- Get CFI trained in NHA procedures
Manage and Develop Instructors
- Provide continuous and ongoing development of flight instructors to make them better instructors
- Create and foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement
- Ensure CFI compliance with all appropriate state, federal, and company rules and regulations
- Conduct systematic performance reviews of CFIs
Manage Part 141 Certificate
- Ensure CFIs are qualified for 141
- Ensure CFIs are complying with Part 141 training processes
- Conduct Stage Checks when other CFIs are not available or when appropriate
- Conduct 141 checks with CFIs
- File all necesaary reports with FAA to ensure Part 141 compliance
Manage Flight Operations
- Responsible for the safe conduct of all flight operations
Other Duties
- Resolve escalated customer training issues
- Other duties as assigned
Compensation Benefits
- Base pay is $120,000 per year
- Two weeks paid time off per year
