Senior Systems Architect (Hybrid Working) - Burgess Hill, England

Role and Responsibilities

Working within CAEu2019s land and training simulation business, lead the systems engineering direction from the pre-contract award stage through the engineering life cycle. Develop cost effective, innovative technical solutions for our Defence Security customers.

Youu2019ll provide the technical leadership and governance throughout the project, ensuring CAE retains its competitive edge and continues to deliver world beating training solutions to the UK MoD.

Weu2019re looking for an experienced Systems Engineer/ Systems Architect, able to coordinate engineering activities and step up into a Design Authority and project leadership capacity when needed.

Your role will include:

  • Coordinating and directing systems engineering tasks across the project life cycle from requirements management through to design, integration, and testing

  • Working with multi-disciplined teams to develop and complete systems specifications and technical requirements

  • Leading the engineering teams to define and design innovative, novel, and cost-effective solutions

  • Act as the solution Design Authority where needed and provide support to the bid and the project teams in that capacity

  • Act as the focal point for liaison with the Business Development team and provide technical council to them for the development of customer solutions (competitor analysis, business cases)

  • Coordinate and contribute to the engineering input in support of bids, ensuring the solution concepts are effectively conveyed to the bid team

  • Making informed make/buy decisions on technical components to ensure a cost-effective solution

  • Providing support where needed to local and global strategic sourcing to procure goods and engineering services

  • Providing internal and external demonstrations and presentations to customers, team members, partners, and suppliers

  • Providing engineering support to Project Management following contract award and throughout the design, integration, and test phases

What are we looking for?

  • Experience of systems engineering across the engineering life cycle

  • Experience of providing engineering inputs into proposal documents to support bid winning

  • Sound commercial awareness and understanding of project finances

  • While not essential, itu2019s beneficial if you have experience in modelling, training simulation or the wider defence industry

  • Knowledge of enterprise IT architectures including cloud computing is also beneficial, as is AI and machine learning

Working within CAEu2019s land and training simulation business, youu2019ll provide systems engineering expertise throughout the project life cycle from pre-contract award through to the solution delivery. The work you do will help provide the UK MoD with world-beating training solutions to give them a competitive edge.

Weu2019re looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary group of Engineers working on this exciting new programme. Weu2019re based at Burgess Hill in West Sussex, but operate a hybrid working approach.

Your role will include:

  • Performing Systems Engineering activities over the whole project life cycle, from initial bid phase to solution delivery to ensure all customer requirements are fulfilled

  • Carrying out analysis and management of user and systems requirements

  • Managing technical risks, advising Project Managers at the project phase so the Risk Register can be maintained

  • Coordinating solution development from the bid phase through to final testing of the developed system

  • Managing and coordinating the planning and execution of system integration and system testing, including acceptance testing

  • Keeping up to date with technological advances and how they can be applied to CAE solutions, and with competitor products to ensure CAE maintains a competitive advantage

  • Following systems engineering and product development processes and standards

What are we looking for?

  • Systems engineering experience across the engineering life cycle

  • Degree/ Masteru2019s Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant engineering field (such as Aerospace, Electrical, Software Engineering)

  • Experience of architecting or using architectural frameworks

  • Requirements management and generation experience

  • Experience of interfacing designs and test descriptions with teams of Software Engineers

Security requirements:

You must be able to obtain or transfer SC clearance (likely to require 5 years of UK residency). You may also be able to transfer non-UK security clearance from overseas.
