UH-60/S70 Chief Pilot - La Verne, California

Description:

BlueSky Helicopters in Los Angeles is seeking a qualified Part 133/135 Chief Pilot. BlueSky is a Part 133, 135 and 137 helicopter operator. The Company operates H-60L, A+, A and B206 airframes and specializes in firefighting and utility operations.
Aircraft are based in the Los Angeles area. Living in the Los Angeles is not mandatory but is preferred. Successful applicant will work full time to perform their duties and responsibilities.
BlueSky offers a competitive full-time compensation package for the position of Chief pilot. The Chief Pilot will report directly to the Director of Operations, COO, CFO and President.
Preference will be given to currently/previously-carded pilots with prior experience in management.
The Chief Pilot must:
  • Meet 119.71 Management Personnel Requirements to serve as Part 135 Chief Pilot
  • Have significant firefighting experience/ experience with Utility Operations and flying in the wire environment
  • Precision longline experience
  • Experience with the H-60/B206 Airframe
  • Ability to be Part 135 Checkairman
  • S70 type rated
  • Ability to travel extensively
  • Proficient with MS Office products
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manages all functions of the flight department to the highest level of safety
  • Maintains a high degree of knowledge of and ensures that all employees comply with Federal Air Regulations (FARs), Operations Specifications (Ops Specs), BlueSky company policies, procedures and processes outlined in the General Operations and other organizational manuals
  • Manages employee staffing, performance and development facilitates regular communication, provides ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Demonstrates leadership that embodies the spirit of teamwork between flight crew members, maintenance and scheduling/support staff that addresses the needs of the customer, organization and team
  • Works directly with the Director of Maintenance, Operations Manager and Construction Coordinators to schedule all revenue, training flights and special needs for any projects
  • Develops crew schedules, ensuring training, vacations and any other required time off is scheduled and documented.
  • Ensures fair-sharing of the workload over the course of the year.
  • Demonstrates compliance with FAR Part 135 required rest periods, if applicable.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting crews duty, vacation, sick and time off to CFO for payroll purposes
  • Responsible for monitoring any overtime and accounting crew member hours to CFO
  • Ensure all crew members account for receipts and document company spending accurately
  • Supervises the screening, selecting and monitoring of future Assistant Chief Pilot, PIC and SIC candidates
  • Develop Training material for both Part 133 and 135 operations
  • Provide training Part 133/135 and give Part 135 checkrides
  • Work directly with the FAA being the company representative and point of contact ensuring BlueSky complies with all FAR's
  • Work directly with customers to comply with all customer and contract requirements
  • Develop Congested Area Plans for flight crews when necessary
  • Participate in the company Safety Management System to continually improve on safety in the company
  • Develops written standard operating procedures (SOPs), specific to their respective flight department in conjunction with BlueSky leadership. Works to standardize the operations of the flight department and strives for continuous improvement. Advises and reports any anomalies to management.
  • Manages all record keeping requirements
  • Manages the flight, company and customer training for all crew members
  • Manages department budgets
  • Stays current on aviation trends and regulations
  • Participates on the flying schedule and assumes PIC duties when required
  • Interacts directly with the client when needed, acting as a trusted advisor Must represent the department and BlueSky in a highly professional manner
  • Ensures that customer needs are met in a safe, friendly and comfortable manner.

Requirements:

The Chief Pilot must:
  • Meet 119.71 Management Personnel Requirements to serve as Part 135 Chief Pilot
  • Meet 133.21 Personnel Requirements to serve as Part 133 Chief Pilot
  • Have significant firefighting experience/experience with Utility Operations and flying in the wire environment
  • Precision longline experience
  • Experience with the H-60/B206 Airframe
  • S70 type rated
  • HEC experience
  • Ability to travel extensively
  • Proficient with MS Office products
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America
The ideal Chief Pilot candidate would:
  • Have a Current H60 USFS/DOI Interagency card
  • A minimum of 500 hours in the H-60 airframe
  • Prior experience as Chief Pilot or Director of Operations
  • Live in the Los Angeles area
  • International flight and contracting experience
