Pilot Simulator Instructor Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities involve direct instructor interface with trainees, Weapons Tactics Instructors (WTI) and other users, and/or trainers/equipment (when an instructor is manning trainer/equipment instructor station(s)) or providing direct classroom instruction.

Primary Responsibilities shall be accomplished during scheduled instruction events as described below. instructors shall:

  • Conduct scheduled instructor led/supported training for Training Device and Systems Training (including briefs and debriefs) using traditional and modern tools such as interactive white boards, computers and video projector systems;
  • Evaluate student training/mission performance as required,
  • Evaluate and record trainer performance IAW established criteria.
  • Maintain, assess, and recommend improvements to mission scenarios for effectiveness and currency;
  • Review curriculum, assess and recommend improvements to the training program via the appropriate training management officials using the appropriate change request (CR) form;
  • Provide classroom instruction and recommendations for improvement, to include tests and test materials, lesson plans, and trainee guides under the guidelines of current directives via the appropriate training management officials using the appropriate change request (CR) form;
  • Conduct training device operation instruction to personnel as necessary, to include instruction on briefing, debriefing and grading/assessments;
  • Provide academic instruction to include Instructor led lecture discussion for Crew Resource Management (CRM), Instrument Ground School (IGS), etc., and self-paced Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) and Computer Based Training (CBT) in support of courses required for each platform;
  • Assist with training device inspections and certification programs and other special projects, as required, to include mishap re-creation and testing;
  • Perform other weapons system specific support responsibilities, as listed in any appendices; and,
  • Perform site specific requirements which may dictate that CIs perform as NATOPS (equivalent) Instrument Evaluators, Assistant NATOPS Instructors (ANI), AW and EW instructors.
  • Contract Instructors may be designated as a NATOPS Instrument Evaluator or Assistant NATOPS Instructor per OPNAVINST 3710.7 SERIES or Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) equivalent.
  • Refer to OPNAVINST 3710.7 SERIES for definitions of responsibilities, assignments, qualifications, cognizant authority for designations, and annual requirements for certifications.

Additional Support Responsibilities

  • CI Additional Support Responsibilities can include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Maintenance and improvement of Curriculum/Syllabus/Testing;
  • Update, modify, and maintain currency of mission scenarios to support specific training. Assess training, syllabus, and mission scenarios for effectiveness and recommend improvements to the training program to the Government via the appropriate change request (CR) form;
  • Assist in updating/creation of feedback information methodology to use for students undergoing training.
  • Update and recommend new testing instruments to identify training baseline and measure proficiency of training objectives as approved by the COR;
  • Make recommendations for update(s) and maintain interim changes to curriculum material(s), including but not limited to, tests and test materials, lesson plans, and trainee guides under the guidelines of current directives in each task order via the appropriate change request (CR) form; and,
  • Review syllabi and recommend changes to the lessons based on NATOPS changes, engineering changes, and evolving mission areas changes via the appropriate change request (CR) form.
  • Provide assistance in the validation of training device Maintenance Action Forms (MAFs).

Miscellaneous

  • Assist the Government in training device testing and evaluation with the introduction of weapon systems or Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) as they affect the training system;
  • Explain the operation, capabilities and limitations of respective device(s)/training equipment and the aircraft simulated to various tour groups and individuals as may be required by the COR;
  • Assist in maintaining the Tactical/Technical Publications Library (TPL);
  • Assist students in learning centers on an as-needed, not-to-interfere with scheduled instruction basis; and,
  • Attend required scheduled meetings (e.g., Scheduling, Standardization, Government Instructor Pilot/Aircrew, Phase Head, and Intelligence Updates).

Collateral Responsibilities

  • Collateral Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Generating Reports and CDRLs;
  • Scheduling Coordination Site Management of Contractor Personnel;
  • Training currency/standardization; Instructional material coordination and handling (check-in/out);
  • Instructor preparation for scheduled instruction; Meetings (i.e., Contractor scheduled meetings); Maintaining currency documents/reference instructional materials (NATOPS Flight Manual (NFM) and NATOPS Pocket Checklist); Maintaining currency and implementing required reading information as specified by the COR or ACO (e.g. Command Plan of the Day and Required Read Board); Completion of grading each student training event, as required Maintain the Learning Management System (LMS) Instructor and student profiles and access (LMS System Administrator functions) Documenting trainee attendance and training accomplishment; Evaluating and recording trainer/equipment performance established criteria;
  • Providing assistance in the validation of training device/equipment Maintenance Action Forms (MAFs);
  • Training, testing and evaluating instructors for certification and training currency maintenance;
  • Complete an annual Fleet Readiness Squadron (FRS) administered Standardization, NATOPS Open and Closed book exams; and, Responsible for the general cleanliness and normal housekeeping services of assigned spaces and their immediate work areas.

Simulator instructors will have at a minimum, the essential qualifications shall be qualified in accordance with the requirements below.

Simulator Flight Instructors

  • (Essential) Shall have successfully completed the ground training segments of a relevant MH-60R initial or conversion course.
  • (Essential) Shall be an aviator who is currently, or has previously been, authorized as a USN or KSA MH-60R flying instructor, equivalent or an alternate Type/Model/Series qualification approved by the KSA Training Authority.
  • (Essential) SENSO shall have a minimum of 500 hours military flying experience as a Sensor Operator
  • (Essential) Pilots shall have a minimum of 500 hours on multi engine, multi crew, medium helicopter, or KSA Training Authority agreed equivalent.
  • (Essential) Pilots shall have completed at least one sea-going tour of no less than 12 months with at least one deployment of 4 months or more as a Helicopter Aircraft Commander.
  • (Essential) Shall have previous anti-submarine and surface warfare experience.  (Highly Desirable) Have previous simulator instructing experience on military rotary wing platforms. 
  • (Highly Desirable) Have previous flying instructional experience on the MH-60R or other military rotary wing platforms. 
  • (Desirable) Shall have previous airborne dipping sonar experience
  • (Highly Desirable – MH-60R, SH-60B,S-70B, or combination thereof)
  • (Highly Desirable – MH-60R, or SH-60B, S-70B or a combination thereof).

Contractor personnel shall be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently. Shall possess, at a minimum, a SECRET security clearance.
