As a pilot at Apollo MedFlights AirLink Program, youll be an integral part of our dedicated team, working alongside skilled medical professionals to provide rapid and critical care transport to patients in need. Your aviation skills will be at the forefront of our life-saving operations, ensuring timely and safe transportation to medical facilities.

Rotor Wing Pilot-in-Command

 

The Pilot-in-Command has command of, and the responsibility for the medical crew members, passengers, cargo, the safe conduct of the flight, and provides guidance and coordinates the activities of every individual connected with all phases of the aircraft operation. Directly represents Apollo and plays a key role in customer service and quality communications with people with whom the pilot directly interacts.

 

A day in the Life:

  • Retain the final authority for the safe operation of the aircraft.
  • Ensure the assigned aircraft is airworthy and all proper documents are on board the aircraft.
  • Make decisions as necessary to accept, reject, or terminate the flight, or deviation from a planned destination when operating conditions dictate.
  • Adhere to proper Crew Resource Management (CRM) techniques and will seek input from all medical crew members prior to rendering a decision.
  • Positively represent Apollo to customers, employees and patients through action, behavior, and communication.
  • Actively participate in the Apollo Safety Management System.
  • Ensure the proper amount and grade of fuel is loaded on the aircraft.
  • Obtain briefing on the purpose of the flight, weather, operating procedures and any special instructions, and plans flight assignments.
  • Ensure that weather and aircraft performance conditions can be met appropriate to the FAR under which the flight is being conducted.
  • Ensure a flight plan or other authorized flight locating procedure is followed on each flight.
  • Ensure the aircraft is within the weight and balance requirements of the applicable Flight Manual.
  • Report all known or suspected FAA violations or incidents promptly to the Chief Pilot.
  • Maintain a current medical certificate as required by Apollo and notifies the Chief Pilot if a medical (physical or mental) condition may impair their ability to perform the flight.
  • Ensure all aircraft equipment checks are performed properly.
  • Ensure that all medical crew members and passengers are appropriately briefed for each phase of flight.
  • Ensure all maintenance discrepancies are reported to appropriate maintenance personnel, and Apollo Operational Control Center is alerted to the current status of the aircraft.
  • Be thoroughly knowledgeable of the General Operations Manual, Federal Aviation Regulations, Operations Specifications, Flight Manuals, and other instructions and regulatory documents pertinent to assigned duties.
  • Participate in the pre-flight risk assessment process.
  • Responsible for Tier Two operational control functions.
  • Able to lift 50 lb. minimum

Candidates should have residence in Eastern North Carolina and be able to drive to support our AirLink base in Whiteville, NC.

The background profile we are looking for:

  • MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

           Current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate

           Rotorcraft-Helicopter; Instrument Helicopter

           Current Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate

           1700 total time

           1000 hours of helicopter time

           800 hours of PIC time

           100 hours of nighttime aided or unaided or any combination

           350 hours of turbine time

           Other considerations

    o   ATP

    o   Previous HAA experience

    o   Previous search and rescue experience

           Valid Driver’s License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

       2000 hours of total time

       1200 hours of helicopter flight time

       1000 hours of PIC time

       50 hours of unaided with 100 hours of aided night flight time

       500 hours of turbine time

       Strongly encouraged

o   ATP

o   1000 hours of turbine time

o   Previous air Medical Experience (Strongly Preferred)
