Position Overview

The Chief Pilot is responsible for leading our flight department, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient flight operations while supporting pilot development, training, and operational excellence. This role balances leadership responsibilities with active flying and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

Flight Operations:

  • Maintain current flight experience (minimum 100 hours in the previous 12 months) and OAS carded status
  • Serve as pilot-in-command as needed to support operational coverage
  • Support maintenance test flights (MX pilot duties) when required
  • Serve as a Check Airman in at least one aircraft type
  • Participate in and support company flight training programs as an instructor

Leadership & Management:

  • Oversee pilot scheduling, staffing, hiring, and retention
  • Coordinate pilot training completion with the Director of Training
  • Represent the flight department professionally with internal and external stakeholders
  • Balance pilot advocacy with company operational and financial objectives
  • Develop and mentor a cadre of contract Lead Pilots
  • Oversee flight records administration and assign responsibilities as needed

Administration & Compliance:

  • Coordinate with the Director of Operations on flight department budgeting and forecasting
  • Conduct pre-contract audits as assigned
  • Ensure completion of customer-specific training requirements (MSHA, NSTC, First Aid, etc.)
  • Coordinate pilot carding and qualification packets with training, compliance, and records teams
  • Maintain an adequate pool of qualified Check Airmen
  • Conduct annual pilot performance reviews
  • Assist with updates to company manuals and operational policies

Work Environment:

  • Flexible, non-traditional work structure driven by operational needs
  • Not required to maintain a full-time flying schedule unless desired
  • Encouraged to take planned time off with proper coverage arrangements
  • Not expected to be available 24/7, but must support operational needs

Compensation:

  • Annual salary + bonus structure
  • Company-paid food expenses while working away from base
