Millard Airport, Nebraska - Omaha, NE

8-11-06 Omaha is a great place to visit. We had a pleasant afternoon shopping and lunching in 'Old Town' in the downtown district and a fun evening at Bushwackers, a true Country/Western dancehall. A good time was had by all! pt/N732TY - Submitted by pamtoth

Omaha, Nebraska - Yes, the entire city - Omaha, NE

Rarely can you put an entire city as a fun place to fly, but in this case I had to write this up. Local weather was horrible and the wife and I needed to getaway to anywhere but home. Found Omaha, NE having great weather and only a couple of hours away by air, so flew in just to check it out. The city is one of the cleanest cities I have been in the last 5 years this is written in August 2022. The city is excellent for an adult getaway weekend or a family trip. For adults, the Old Market District has dozens of outstanding bars, speakeasy's, and restaurants to check out, all within walking distance of all the major hotel chains. If you want to get away with your kids, a world-class Zoo, some amazing parks with outdoor music and water features, hiking and biking, and museums of all types are spread around the area. Three airports service the Omaha area, KOMA, KMLE, and KBTA. For our first flight we flew into KOMA and used Signature Flight Services as our FBO. The staff at Signature provided us a pretty comprehensive list of things to do and they offered a $.50 off per gallon of 100LL if you fuel on the weekend. They also work with National Car Rental's FBO services to get your right to the plane. KOMA airport is a little over 3 miles to the main downtown district where all the hotels are located. If you like craft beer, you gotta check out the Omaha Craft Beer Penny Pack, where you buy your first beer and your 2nd beer is only a penny at 13 different brew pubs in the area. A fun speakeasy is the Wicked Rabbit Bar, and if you like Tiki Bars, check out Laka Lono. Families should consider the Zoo, but plan for a full-day. Of course, anyone who flies in will likely want to check out the Strategic Air Command Museum, which is actually affiliated with the Smithsonian. For us, Omaha was never a consideration as a destination city, but this one visit has changed our minds about that. - Submitted by Spencer Hamons

Pioneer Village Museum - Minden, NE

Wonderful museum of American consumer goods. Aviation, automobiles, household goods, farm equipment and more. Motel on the museum grounds. - Submitted by Loren Hutchinson

Wayne, Nebraska - Wayne, NE

The small town of Wayne Nebraska is proud of their airport and it shows. This is perhaps the friendliest airports in the country. Inexpensive gas, free loaner car, nice FBO, good runways. Jim the airport manager is a prince. In bad weather, they'll push you inside. Free Udder Delight is a small cafe in town with great food. Peach Cobbler the way it should be! Give this airport and the town your business and your support! We need more like this. - Submitted by Orlo Ellison

Willa Cather Opera House - Red Cloud, NE

The Willa Cather Opera House, Art Gallery, Native Prairie and Historic Sites tour is an amazing day's trip. Willa Cather is a Pulitzer Prize winning author and native of Webster County. The Cather website www.willacather.org does a wonderful job of helping organize your time and explain the area in detail. The Red Cloud Municipal Airport has a courtesy car available, fuel, tie downs and if the weather turns bad hangar space will be found and RNAV/GPS approaches. - Submitted by Dayre Williams

York Municipal Airport - York , NE

EAA Chapter 1055 sponsors a fly-in breakfast on the 1st Saturday of every month. Breakfast 8-10am. - Submitted by redoakrod
