Wing Camping Under the Perseids - Darrington, WA 1S2

Darrington Municipal Airport (1S2)
Darrington, WA
Thursday, Aug 13: Friends of North Mountain host a Stargazing Party at the North Mountain Fire Lookout - new-moon Perseid conditions, telescopes on site, Seattle Astronomical Society cooperation being explored. PLAN FOR AN OVERNIGHT: Runway lights and beacon OTS indefinitely - daylight VFR only. Arrive well before sunset approx. 8:20 PM. Primitive camping with your aircraft is permitted at the field no hookups. Depart after sunrise Friday. Prefer a bed? The Darrington Motor Inn 360-436-1776 is a basic small-town motel about a half-mile walk from the field - the only motel in town. Book by phone early and reconfirm if you're running late on a new-moon meteor night with a public event, rooms may go fast. If it's full, the wing camping is the plan. Rwy 10/28, 2,491 x 40 ft asphalt. CTAF 122.9. Unattended tie-downs. Check NOTAMs. The lookout is a drive up forest roads and there is currently no pilot transport. The hosts are taking questions at northmountainlookout@gmail.com - if you'd want a ride up, email and ask. Enough interest and something may come together no guarantees, so plan to be self-sufficient. Either way the show is overhead: camp at the field and you're under the Perseids all night.
