Darrington Archers Father's Day Safari - Fly-In to 1S2

Darrington Municipal Airport (1S2)
Darrington, WA
Fly into Darrington Municipal 1S2 for the Darrington Archers Father's Day Safari - the 6th leg of the Northwest Safari Tour, a two-day 3D shoot at one of the premier outdoor archery ranges on the West Coast. Archers work life-sized 3D animal targets through forested courses that range from flat to steep and genuinely challenging. It's family-friendly with divisions for all ages: Adults $35 two-day / $20 one-day, Youth $25 / $15, and Cubs $20 / $10. Shotgun start at 9 AM both Saturday and Sunday. The range itself is worth the trip - 262 acres of forest with five permanent 28-target courses, home turf of a club that hosts the national field-archery championships every three years, and home to the first handicapped-accessible 28-target outdoor range in the country. Arriving by air means a scenic run up the Sauk River valley under Whitehorse Mountain. A few practical notes for pilots. The field is day-VFR with no fuel and no services, so top off before you come and bring your own tie-downs. It's a bit of a stretch from the runway into town, so plan a folding bike or a ride. Once you're in town, everything's within easy walking distance - restaurants, coffee, a grocery store, and a couple of bars - and the Darrington Motor Inn is right in town for an overnight. Bring layers for cool mountain mornings and sun protection for the day. A two-day safari shoot, a world-class range, and a runway instead of a parking lot - come draw a bow in the Cascades.
