Darrington Timberbowl Rodeo - Fly-In to 1S2

Darrington Municipal Airport (1S2)
Darrington, WA
Fly into Darrington Municipal 1S2 for one of the oldest small-town rodeos in the Cascades. The Timberbowl Rodeo has run since 1962, and the arena sits right at the foot of Whitehorse Mountain - so the view from the chutes is as good as the action in them. Arriving by air means a gorgeous run up the Sauk River valley and no scramble for a parking spot. Planning notes: the field is day-VFR with no fuel and no services, so top off before you come and bring your own tie-downs. It's a fair distance from the runway to the rodeo grounds and into town - easily done with a folding bike, a quick trip if you can arrange a ride, walkable if you pack light and don't mind the stretch. Town has what you need close together: restaurants, a coffee shop, a grocery store, and a couple of bars, all an easy walk once you're in. For an overnight, the Darrington Motor Inn is in town, and the rodeo grounds sometimes have camping - check darringtonrodeogrounds.org. Bring layers for cool mountain evenings, a hat and sunscreen for the afternoon sun, and rain gear just in case. A real ranch rodeo, a mountain back, and a runway instead of a parking lot - come see timber country do what it's done for sixty years.
