Fort Dodge is a growing city. The military constructed Fort Clark to provide protection for the settlers in 1850 The name was changed to Fort Dodge in 1951. In spring of 1853, indian problems prompted the abandonment of Fort Dodge. Today a bronze plaque in downtown marks the site where the original fort stood. - Submitted by openairnet
