| Saturday, Nov 20, 2010 Fountain Valley, CA. American Aviation Historical Society Luncheon - (http://www.aahs-online.org), John Wayne (SNA) General Bob Cardenas to Speak at AAHS Luncheon. The American Aviation Historical Society is proud to present retired USAF Brig. General Bob Cardenas as a guest speaker in its Oral History Presentation Series. Aviation enthusiasts and historians are invited to attend the November 20, 2010 luncheon meeting from 11-1 at Mile Square Golf Course, 10401 Warner Ave., Fountain Valley CA 92708. Gen. Cardenas will speak on the life experiences as an Air Force pilot in WWII, Korea and Vietnam . Using photos from his personal collection and the AAHS Photo Archives, he will discuss his experiences as an Air Force test pilot flying such aircraft as the Douglas XB-42 Mixmaster, Douglas XB-43 Jetmaster, Northrop YB-49 “Flying Wing” and others. Gen. Cardenas is rated in over 60 aircraft types – with stories about almost every one! During his career, Gen. Cardenas was awarded, among others, the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, and a Presidential Citation. The General will take questions about any of his experiences, and is happy to share notes about specific missions and assignments. The luncheon will include a slide presentation of some of the more interesting and little seen photos contained in the AAHS Photo Archives. Come join us for a delightful and educational lunch. This luncheon meeting is open to any interested party, but does require a reservation. Founded in 1956 by a group of amateur aviation enthusiasts and photographers, the AAHS is a non-profit society dedicated to collecting and preserving our rich American aviation heritage. The Society’s library contains more than 8,000 books and periodicals and our photo archives contains more than 150,000 negatives, prints and slides – with both collections constantly expanding. Headquartered in Santa Ana , the AAHS welcomes volunteers to help us organize, maintain and expand Internet access to these collections. The AAHS Headquarters located near the corner of Warner Avenue and Harbor Boulevard in Santa Ana will be open for visitors following the luncheon.
